In the ongoing effort to help our golf tournament clients, Above Par Promotions is constantly trying to identify new ways to increase revenue, value and perception for the tournaments.
One new sponsorship is that of Bottled Water. This has been a relatively untapped (excuse the pun) area for golf tournament sponsorship opportunities, yet is so simple, functionable and profitable, it needs to be discussed and explored!
Every tournament provides drinks to their players during the golf tournament, whether they bring their own beverages to the course or they purchase the beverages from the course. Why not bring your own beverages to be given away that have been paid for AND you have generated positive revenue for your bottomline?
It is extremely simple to do. Determine how many bottles of water that you think will be needed for your next golf tournament. Price the sponsorship of the bottled water based on this number. For example, if you expect to have 144 golfers, you will need to order roughly 300 bottles of water (this number will flucuate based on time of year, temperature etc...). Price the sponsorship at $1,000. If you are successful, order the bottled water with your sponsor's full color logo printed on the label, and you will NET $600.00 and have provided your sponsor with valuable exposure.
As an added bonus to your sponsoring company, Above Par Promotions will provide the event with a custom Bottled Water Sponsor Sign, that can be displayed at the course for extra exposure. As with all of our suggested sponsorship opportunities, there is cost containment built in. If you do not sell the bottled water sponsorship, don't order the product.
Give us a shout if you would like more information and pricing on the bottled water sponsorship.
Who thought water could be so profitable for a golf tournament?

When planning a fundraising golf tournament, there are hundreds of things to think about, arrange, purchase etc...One of the absolute first things to do is to book a golf course to host your fundraising golf tournament.
Does the course matter? You bet. There are a variety of reasons that players play in and companies sponsor golf tournaments. Belief in the cause, possible business networking, company or product exposure are all reasons. Another important reason to either play in or sponsor a tournament is the course. Picking the right course makes all the difference in the world. If you pick a course that is considered on the lower end of the spectrum, purely for cost reasons then you will not be able to charge your players and sponsors as much to participate. It's not very appealing for someone to fork over some money to play a course that is either in bad shape or not challenging or doesn't have great facilities. You want to choose a course that people would want to play and otherwise might not be able to play if not for your fundraising golf tournament.
Private country clubs will typically host outside fundraising golf tournaments a few times a year. These courses are not played by the general public and this may be the appeal to a group of players or sponsors who have never played the course, but like to. These courses will charge more when compared to a middle of the road daily play course, but you should be able to charge more to offset the higher cost. The main thing is to get the players involved with the tournament and organization, then, you can figure out how to raise the desired funds. Having your event at a private club will typically open the doors to a higher demographic that will ultimately lead to more money raised and a better experience for all to be had.
I recently had the opportunity to play a new private course that just opened and was extremely pleased with the layout. Once word really gets around about this course then the desire to play it will be increased dramatically by all. Fundraising events in this city would be smart to consider having their next event at this course as people will likely sign up to play in the event, for the pure reason to just play this course. Once they are at your event, they will likely spend more money for your cause.
Does the course selection matter? You bet!

As written in earlier articles, hole in one insurance is a necessity for most fundraising golf tournaments. Again, don't think of it as an expense, think of it as a revenue generator. Most players have become accustomed to seeing prizes offered at the par 3 holes with most events.
Above Par Promotions has just made hole in one insurance more exciting and profitable for our tournament clients. Starting July 1st and running through December 31st, receive a FREE $100 Callaway Gift Card with each purchase of one of our pre set hole in one packages. This card can be used at the tournaments descretion. Offer it as a raffle prize, silent auction prize, proximity prize, sponsor thank you gift etc...Use it to either save on costs in other areas of your event or use it to generate cash for the event.
We offer the most flexible and unique packages available in the industry. Trips to Las Vegas, the TPC properties, Pebble Beach, Pinehurst, Bandon Dunes, Masters in addition to vehicles, airline tickets, High Def TV's all make your prize offering desired by your players.
Again, hole in one insurance is a revenue generator, not an expense! Offer the package as a sponsorship opportunity or offer each prize as a seperate sponsorship opportunity. Remember in most cases, these are worth more individually than as a whole!
As an added bonus, when one of the preset hole in one insurance packages is chosen, the event will receive enough FREE Golfsmith Gift Cards to give $20.00 to each player in your event! These cards have a hard value and can be used in one of their stores or online.
Call us today to book your package and start receiving the FREE Goodies!

Being blessed with being involved with so many fundraising golf tournaments, we have gained vast knowledge of what players would like to receive as arrival gifts and also how sponsors want to be recognized at an event.
We are introducing a new merchandise package special for tournaments taking place from July 1st through December 31st that will not only be received very well with your players, you will help generate more revenue for the event by selling these items as individual sponsorships.
*One Custom Imprinted Cabretta Leather Golf Glove
*One sleeve of imprinted Nike Power Distance Golf Balls
*One custom embroidered cap, with FREE DIGITIZING
Package price is $19.95
The gloves will come in 17 different sizes to ensure a proper size fit for each player. We will ship in more gloves than players and all leftover gloves are returned for full credit. Only pay for the ones that are actually given away. The Nike balls include one full color logo imprint. The caps include one embroidered logo and they came in a multiple of colors, structures and closures.
All three of these items are EXTREMELY SPONSOR FRIENDLY. They are all low priced and should sell easily. If you sell all three as sponsored items, the event should NET around $3,000.00 by giving these away to your players AND providing your sponsoring companies some great exposure! This is what I mean when I say that you can actually give away more items to increase the value of the goody bag, while ALSO increasing the NET revenue to the event. This works like magic.
Happy Selling and Golfing!

Another way to help raise more money at your next golf tournament fundraising event WITHOUT RISK is to conduct a live or silent auction using consignment trips.
You will not sell many of these at your event, but even if you sell just one, you could stand to net a good chunk of money, again, without risk. You can choose from hundred of trips that we have put together that include destinations all over the world. Pebble Beach, Colorado, New York, the Carribean, Scotland, China etc...All trips include airfare, hotel and professional conceirge services. Most trips also include the "extras" such as golfing, vineyard tours etc...Click on live auction on our website to few the most popular and best selling trips that events have had the most success with. There are hundreds more available so just let us know if you can't find what you are looking for. Chances are, we have it.
What you want to make sure and do is to match up the trip or trips that you want to offer to your demographic. They need not be "golf" specific. You never know who may have an anniversary coming up that would like to take their spouse on a charming trip to the Sonoma Wine Country.
Once a trip or trips have been chosen, we will send you a flyer with a complete description of the trip and what the cost to the event would be IF it is sold. You determine the starting minimum bid. If it sells, you will be billed. If it doesn't sell, you won't be billed. Absolutely NO RISK. If the trips sell, once you have received the money from the winning bidder and have paid us, we will contact the bidder and provide them with all necessary info to facilitate the booking of their trip.
In most cases, an event can net $400 to $1,000 per trip again, with no risk or additional cost such as golf, dinner or player arrival gifts. Would your event like to provide another $1,000 to the benefiting charity?
Happy Golfing!

Golf Tournament Fundraising Sponsorship. This is what it's all about!
The most successful fundraising golf tournaments do not rely on the individual players paying their $150.00 to play in the event to make up most of the money. It's the sponsorships that make the difference. Events need to budget according to the following concept. The individual player payments is what pays for the expenses associated with an event. Sponsorships that are sold is the "gravy" that is given to the benefiting organization. This was never more apparent than this last weekend at the Crown Plaza Colonial PGA event.
Everywhere I looked while in attendance at this year's Colonial were corporate sponsorships. Skyboxes, programs, tickets, clubhouse, proshop, electronic scoreboards, Fanfest and even on the tv screens on the shuttle buses. The point that I am trying to make is that there are many areas of a fundraising golf tournament that can be sold as sponsorships to help raise more money for a "normal" fundraising golf tournament.
Take a look at a PGA event and then scale it down to your next event. Many opportunities go unrecognized that could yield a lot of extra money for your event. Programs, Golf Carts, Beverage Carts, Holes, Food Stations, Beverage Stations, Player Gifts, Event Contests, Land (putting green, driving range, VIP Parking in the lot) etc...are all good sponsorships that can yield lots of additional revenue without adding much additional cost. Win-Win??? I think so. Many of these new sponsorship opportunites will only add the cost of a sign or two. Pretty good ROI on your investment as well as a good ROI for your sponsoring companies. EXPOSURE is the key to not only selling sponsorships but also for a successful event.
When planning your next event (start at least 7 months out) think outside the box when constructing your sponsorship list. Add new ones and then make your sponsorship selling committee accountable. If they are successful, your benefiting organization wins. If certain sponsorships don't sell, then don't put them in place, thus, saving any money that you may disburse. This is true "Cost Containment".

How many times have you heard "It's the little things that make a difference"? This couldn't be more true in the world of golf tournament fundraising.
There are so many components that go into a producing a successful golf tournament fundraising event, that I thought I would break certain areas down and show how you can save some money without sacrificing quality or sponsor exposure.
You have read in previous articles my concept on how to give away more items in a players goody bag while at the same time, raise more money by doing so. You can save some money in this area. Golf Balls - Most players are brand conscience but they are not aware of the multitude of different levels of balls. Instead of buying Titleist Pro V 1's that are sponsored, purchase Titleist NXT's. This will save roughly $20.00 per dozen. Besides, most golf balls given out at an event are actually left on the course in the lakes, trees and rough. This would save $500.00
Shirts - Again, most players are brand conscience but now aware of all of the different choices that are offered to a tournament planner. No need to give away a $45.00 Nike Shirt when you can get the same amount of satisifaction by giving away a $34.00 Nike Shirt. This would save $1,100.00.
Bags - If you must give away a bag, which alot do mainly as a vehicle to hold all of the other items that are being given away, choose a simple canvass tote bag with an imprint. Most players have many bags that have been accumulated that are not used. Instead of a branded bag for $35.00, choose a nice tote for $7.00. You will have better luck selling the sponsorship for the tote bag at a much lower price versus the higher cost bag. This would save $2,800.00.
Hole in One Insurance - This is almost an expected necessity for fundraising golf tournaments to offer. It's more noticed by your players if it is not offered versus if it is offered. Choose a quality 4 hole package involving trips to famous golf resorts. This package will cost alot less that offering a vehicle, plus it will be easier to sell as a sponsorship. This would save $500.00.
*All savings numbers are compiled using a player count of 100.
Fine tuning your next event in the above listed catagories will help you save $4,900.00 and will not take away anything from your sponsors or players.
Happy Golfing!
